On the one hand the dedicated chat app competes directly with Facebook Messenger, and potentially the low-level Facebook social network experience. It’s the same reason Facebook bought WhatsApp. This might seem an odd decision on the surface, but viewed through the lens of a company that wants to spread its tendrils as far and wide as possible, it makes sense. The real reason that Facebook is pushing chat into its Messenger is to create another platform or silo from which Facebook can access you as a user. So now they are going to kill the standalaone Messenger app and will force us to download Facebook to talk to people? The only reason I still have an account is for Messenger so I wouldn't have to download/use the Facebook app/interface.Facebook and Facebook Messenger are two of the most popular non-native apps on Android, alongside other Facebook-owned apps Instagram and WhatsApp. I haven't even mention that they annouced they're going to merge the Facebook app with the Messenger app again after all these years.

It's like they went out of their own way to break something that was perfectly fine before. I know that Facebook is a very intrusive platform but at least they were trying to hide it before and their suggestion crap was mostly restricted to the main app but now even Messenger? Conversation are meant be private or at the very least seems like it on the surface within a messaging platform, with Messenger, now it is overtly instrusive as fuck. Or people who I was in contact with for a Marketplace deal once upon a time and now they are forever embeded in my contact list for eternity? But now? Now I need to block them? What is the reasoning behind this move? Not only that but in the search bar, they show me suggested people who I don't even know in real life (no, I did not upload my contacts to Facebook). I could always look them up if I ever need to be in contact again. I could delete a contact and not be bother by their presence in the suggestion section or my contact list if they ever annoyed me but not to the point of cutting them off totally. From communicating with my family to things like arranging a doctor appointment, signing up for a gym subscription.

I have never liked Facebook or its Messenger app but it's the de facto messaging app in my country so I'm forced to have it.
